Sensations Therafun Outing

Last week Derek and I went to meet a few other Moms and kiddos about his age at Sensations Therafun. If you haven't heard of it, you should check it out, it's a great place. We hadn't ever been but Derek had a great time. He absolutely loved the ball pit, of course. He also really liked this square swing.

Valentines Day Park Visit

Today we went to the park to enjoy the gorgeous weather outside. Derek absolutely loves the park and running around. He loves to swing and slide forever and ever.

Bubbles at Gammas

Derek fell in love with bubbles at school when they introduced him to the bubble machine. They said since the kids loved it so much, they do it every day at school now. He absolutely LOVES the bubble machine. Grandma Dawnie got him one for Valentines Day and brought it to Gamma's so that he could have one of his own. To say he was happy is a complete understatement! We played inside until we realized that it made the floor wet. We didn't think that of course it would also make the porch outside slippery too. Derek found out the hard way but it was so cute to watch!

A few things about Derek at 19 months.

  • He's learning his body parts. If you ask him where his nose, eyes, ears, hair, and belly are, he will point to them. With his belly, he likes to just hold his shirt up high and smile a megawatt smile.
  • He loves to play "where's Derek" which is our version of peek-a-boo. He'll cover his eyes and when you say "where's Derek?" he'll uncover with another megawatt smile and expect you to say BOO.
  • He also loves playing peek-a-boo around doors or walls. He'll hide and then pop out.
  • He adores fruit of just about any kind. His only objection thus far is peaches. He loves grapes and blueberries the most.
  • Every now and then he'll go climb in his big boy bed himself if he's tired. Sometimes if he's feeling like it, when we say "go night night" he'll go climb in but it's not very often.
  • He can sign for more, please, and all done.
  • He will do just about anything for praise (clapping and saying yay). Especially give kisses.
  • He still loves to scream in a very high pitched voice. Now it's a mixed babble/scream/screech.
  • He loves playing with one of our old phones and when you say "hello" he'll put it up to his ear to talk.
  • He loves music. Whenever he hears music he dances his little white boy shake.
  • Him and Daddy love to play the game chase and do laps around the kitchen and living room which induces those lovely screeches of "Daddddddddeeeeeeeeee" in the highest pitch possible.

Derek's sayings

The last few days Derek has been babbling non-stop. He is rarely sitting quiet anymore. We'll hear him in his playroom just talking and telling himself a story.

Here are some of his favorite sayings that are actual words so far:
Hot - he'll walk up to the fireplace or the oven and just say hot over and over.
No, no, no, no - always at least 3 times in the cutest little funny voice with a smile on his face every time.
Dad-dee
Light - he'll point up at a light and say "ight"
Book - although it comes out more like "abba" and he'll bring over books all day long. His favorite thing is following me into our bedroom to sit in my lap in the rocking chair for story time.

We can't wait until he's talking more and more because his face just lights up whenever he's babbling away telling you one of his stories.

New stats and fun in the leaves

Today we took Derek to the doctor for a rash and got some updated stats on him. He's finally on the weight chart, woohoo! He's now 21 lbs 3 oz, which is 15th percentile and 33 inches, which is 75th percentile. He's our lean, mean machine.

Here I am watching cars at Grandma and Grandpa Deline's house and playing in the leaves. Such fun!
