This weekend was our long awaited beach vacation. It'd been unseasonably hot for weeks so we assumed the beach would be wonderful. Weather had other plans. We tried taking Derek to the beach but it was just too cold and windy. After he'd had a cold for about a week, he started running a high fever the second night there and had a crazy rash covering his face, neck, back, and chest. We thought it could have been an allergic reaction to something and took him to the ER. The ER was amazing and diagnosed it as a virus, we paid our copay for some very expensive Motrin, and we were on our way in less than 2 hours. Unheard of. The following day the rash faded considerably and he was back to normal most of the day with no fever. By mid afternoon he'd starting throwing up and running a fever again and acting sick. He went to sleep for the night but woke up hysterical, throwing up, and with his eyes crusted shut with yellow junk. Back to the ER we went with completely different symptoms. This time they again said it was just the virus and could take up to 3 weeks, EEK!, to get over. They gave him some anti-nausea medicine in exchange for another copay and we were on our way again after another 2 hour visit. Amazing, I tell you!! Another night of up all night though with a fever. These next few weeks are going to be rough if he keeps that up!
He had his 15 month appt Monday and the pedi said the same thing, it was just a virus running it's course. She ordered an allergy test just in case though to rule out any allergies. He is on course for his age and she said he's doing great. Thankfully, he slept through the night since Momma and Daddy had to return to work. Whew!

While it may seem based on my exhausted writing above like the trip was horrible, it wasn't at all. It was a wonderful escape from work and the everyday that allowed walks on the beach, shopping, and afternoon naps. Which if you know me, you know that's my perfect vacation. There was just a little adventure thrown in there to keep us on our toes.
